Creating an account on Hangzhou Plus is easy and gives you access to tons of features like your dashboard, creating events and selling tickets, posting apartments, secondhand items, jobs, language exchange requests, selling products, and much more!
To create an account, go to the Registration Page. From there you can use your e-mail address or your Facebook / Linked In account. Make sure you choose a strong password.
Once your account has been created, you can visit your dashboard or begin posting right away.
Your dashboard gives you have access to everything you have posted or bought on Hangzhou Plus. You can reply to messages, view sales, purchases, delete and edit posts, and more. You can go to your dashboard from the menu or by going here.
Having a profile can allow you to express yourself and increase your credibility throughout the site. You can manage your profile from the settings page. Make sure to add a profile photo and description.
When you receive a message on Hangzhou Plus, you will be sent an email with information about that message, including a link to the message. To view messages, you can either click on links in emails, or access the messages tab from your dashboard.
To send a message, simply fill out message forms on the organizer, marketplace product, guides, apartments, items, or language partners pages. You must be logged in to send messages.
The content of all messages is only visible to the sender and receiver, meaning your information is kept private and safe. If a Hangzhou Plus team member has to resolve an issue with the message system, or a user has reported message abuse, he/she may check message contents and take punitive action.
Although your information is kept private, please avoid disclosing personal information, such as bank account details, passwords, exact addresses, etc. If someone acquires either you or the other user in your conversation’s login password, they will be able to read your messages.
Buying on Hangzhou Plus
The marketplace allows local individuals and companies to sell their items and services in English. If you find something you would like to buy, your next step is to either Add to Cart, or message the seller directly from the product page. After you have made your decision to buy the product, make sure it is in your cart, and then go to the checkout page from your cart.
Shipping & Delivery
Some marketplace products may require delivery. Once you have completed payment, the seller of the item will ship within 2-3 business days. Sellers are required to send you tracking information once they have successfully shipped the item.
If there is a problem with your order, the best course of action would be to work out a solution with the seller directly. If you and the seller are unable to resolve a problem, you may then contact us. Please make sure to include all information about your order in the message, including order number, item, seller, and details. Decisions made by Hangzhou Plus are final.
Restaurants and other companies within the directory can sell discount coupons and products right through their pages. Take advantage of these offers by buying on Hangzhou Plus. If you see a discount product you like, just add it to your cart, and then go to the checkout page to complete your order. After your payment has been completed, you will receive an e-mail message with order information. If the discount is redeemable at a location, just show the e-mail to staff at the business. If it is something that needs to be shipped, you can treat it just like a marketplace product. Most questions can be answered by the seller, so please ask them for more information first.
Local guides are the key to making your trip to Hangzhou an amazing experience. They know the city well, as some have lived in Hangzhou their whole lives, they can help you hail taxis and get into parks without having to deal with language barrier issues, and can get you the ‘local’ price on things such as souvenirs, food, etc., instead of the ‘tourist’ price, among many other perks.
To choose a guide first browse the full list of guides on the guides page. Once you’ve found a guide (or two, or three) you like, send him/her a message through their description page to check their availability. After confirming availability and making an agreement, you can buy the guide’s time by adding the item on the guide’s page to your cart. Make sure to add the correct quantity based on the number of days you need the guide for and then note the days you are making an appointment for in the ‘order notes’ during checkout.
*Important – Please conduct all payments through Hangzhou Plus only as this is the only way we can resolve any issues that occur (we hold guides’ payments until your trip duration has passed, and will have communications records on hand should anything happen). We cannot help otherwise. If you need to purchase additional time, do it through Hangzhou Plus.
Right now, all guides cost 199 USD (about 1300 Chinese Yuan) per day, which is about 8 hours. This includes the guide’s time both creating your sightseeing itinerary, and showing you around the city. Guides have no obligation to surpass 8 hours per day. It also includes a small 10% service charge that goes to payment providers, site maintenance, and management of the guides system.
This price does not include transportation, meals, hotels, park tickets or any other costs. In the future, we will add an option where you can have the guide book hotels and transportation for you, but currently, this is not one of the guide’s duties.
We accept PayPal, which allows you to pay with a PayPal account or major international credit cards, WeChat Pay, and Alipay. Unfortunately, payments through PayPal will have a service charge because PayPal charges international payment fees and withdrawal fees since they do not deal in Chinese currency.
You must inform a guide of cancellation at least 4 days prior to an appointment (China time). If you cancel after this period, you will be eligible for a 50% refund only. Cancellations made within 24 hours of the start time will be eligible for a 25% refund.
Guides are not allowed to cancel for reasons other than severe illness or emergencies. If a guide has to cancel they should inform you and Hangzhou Plus ASAP. We will then try to find you a similar guide, upon which you can accept the change or deny and receive a full refund. If we are unable to find a replacement, you will also receive a full refund.
Safety / Insurance
If you think you will need it, please purchase travel insurance before coming to China. Hangzhou Plus is in no way liable for accidents or damages that occur on trips. We simply connect guides to travelers.

Buy tickets to performances, sports events, and other great events in Hangzhou online right through Hangzhou Plus. Our tickets portal makes it easy for you to connect with event organizers and ensure you know what’s going on in the city. While browsing events, you can purchase tickets by going to the bottom of the event description page to the tickets section, choosing the ticket type and quantity you would like, and then adding tickets to your cart. Then, visit the checkout page to buy your tickets and complete the order.
Official Events / Tickets
These are events and tickets organized by Hangzhou Plus (noted by Hangzhou Plus as the organizer on the event description page). Occasionally, we will organize our own events around the city (ex. Chinese Corner), and other times, we provide English information and a ticketing service for local events which otherwise provide no easy way for expats to find event information / purchase tickets (ex. Sports Games, Concerts, etc.). In these cases, we work directly with the event venue / organizers to provide you with the best prices and seats possible. Terms for refunds, exchanges, or extra information needed may be exclusive to each event, and will be noted as needed. If this information is not provided, assume that if an event is cancelled, you will receive a refund. If you cannot make it to an event, you will likely not be able to receive a refund unless otherwise noted. If you have any questions, you may contact us to inquire.
Community Events / Tickets
Anything not run by Hangzhou Plus is considered a community event. Tickets sold for these events are managed by their respective event organizer, who also may provide specific rules. If no rules are provided, it should be assumed that you will not receive a refund if you have to cancel your tickets. If the event is cancelled, however, organizers must provide refunds. Any specific questions should be directed to the event organizer. You can send them a message by visiting their organizer page and using the message form or any other contact info provided.
Current supported payment methods are WeChat and Alipay. Paypal will be available soon, but will have a service charge issued to the buyer due to international exchange rate and transfer fees (PayPal does not support transfers of Chinese Yuan).
Alipay is an international company but doesn't offer multi-language support. Here's how to navigate through the Chinese payment screens on WeChat + phone, phone, and computer:
WeChat + Phone
1. After selecting "Pay with Alipay", you will see a notification requiring you to open your phone's browser to complete payment. WeChat actively blocks Alibaba products (Taobao, Alipay, etc.), so you must open the link outside of WeChat. Tap the three dots in the upper-right hand corner to open the menu and then select "Open with Browser".
2. Next, you should see the payment screen pop-up automatically and ask you to enter your payment method and confirm payment. If it doesn't pop-up, just tap "继续支付" (continue payment).
3. After tapping confirm payment, enter your 6-digit Alipay app password. If you don't have the Alipay app, you probably don't have this password yet. In that case, you must complete payment on your computer.
4. After payment has been completed, you must tap "完成支付" to return to Hangzhou Plus. If you do not complete this step, there is a possibility that you have paid, but we have no record of your payment!
1. Enter phone number to get a verification code. Change your country if you need to (China is default). Then hit next
2. Enter your verification code and then press confirm
3. Make sure all info is correct, then select your payment method and confirm payment
4. Done! That was easy
1. Either scan the QR Code with your phone's Alipay app to pay, or click the computer icon on the right to login
2. If you selected computer login, enter your login name and payment password, not your login password!
3. Now choose which payment method you'd like to use - Alipay balance or bank cards. Enter your Alipay payment password again, then press confirm
4. Done! That was easy
Payment Safety and Guarantees
Since payments are handled by the payment service provider, they provide guarantees that your information is safe.
Because all payments are made to Hangzhou Plus, we have the ability to refund your money in the case a seller does not abide by the rules and fails to deliver a product. This helps defend against bad seller behavior.
*Please do NOT make payments for products sold on Hangzhou Plus through other means. This is very unsafe as it offers so protection if the product is defective or the seller fails to deliver. If a seller asks you to pay offsite, report him/her immediately by contacting us.
Refunds / Exchanges
Generally, sellers will list their terms for refunds and exchanges right on a product’s page. If no terms are listed, you should ask the seller before buying. If you need to refund or exchange an item purchased on Hangzhou Plus, you should first speak with the seller directly. If the seller refuses to provide an exchange or refund when they should, you can contact us to help you resolve any issues.
There are numerous reasons why you should list your business on Hangzhou Plus. Here are a few:

Submitting a Listing
If you find that your place or business, or a place or business you love is not listed on the website, you can submit it to be listed in our directory by visiting the submit new listing page. Once you have filled out the and submitted the form, our team will review all information and decide whether or not it meets our criteria (e.g. not spam). We would love to see more great places on Hangzhou Plus! By default, once a listing is published on Hangzhou Plus, it does not belong to anyone, no matter who submitted it. If you are the owner of a listing and would like to unlock cool features to make your listings attractive to users, you must claim your listing separately by clicking the “claim this listing” button on the listing’s description page. Read on for information about claiming your listing.
Claiming a Listing
If you are the owner of a listing on Hangzhou Plus and would like to “take control” and unlock cool features to make your listings attractive to users, you must claim your listing by clicking the “claim this listing” button on the listing’s description page. After submitting the claim form, we may contact you to verify information. It is totally worth it because –
Claiming a listing allows you to immediately unlock these features:
- Add or change your place’s description
- Direct customers to like your Facebook page or WeChat.
- Link events happening at your place
- Add images to let people feel the atmosphere from their fingertips.
- SELL discount coupons and products online
You also have the option to unlock even more awesome perks such as making your listing featured (coming soon), increasing product limits, etc., by purchasing an upgrade. Featured listings appear in a section that stands out from the rest, thus driving even more traffic to your establishment.
Events tied to listings in the directory work exactly like events do anywhere else. Please go to the Events & Tickets section for more information on this feature.
Selling coupons/products through your listing page on Hangzhou Plus works almost exactly like items sold in the Marketplace, except some products you sell may require the customer to show up to your establishment in order to redeem or pick them up. In fact, items you sell on your listing page are also listed in the Marketplace, doubling your exposure! Please read the section on selling products for information.

Whether you are looking to sell imported goods from your home country as a side job, or you are building a small business offering services, goods, etc., to the Hangzhou community, this is the place to sell your products. Please read the guidelines below to ensure you have a smooth selling experience.
Posting a Product
Any registered user can post a product to sell on Hangzhou Plus. Products can be posted by simply filling out the New Product form. Please make sure all information is complete and accurate, and that you add images in order to inform and attract customers to check out your product(s). Once you have submitted your product, we will review your submission within 1-2 days and approve it if it fits our guidelines. After your product is approved, you can start selling right away! You can Manage your products from your account dashboard.
Important! You must also include how long it takes for you to ship the product (if it requires shipping), and what your exchange/return policy is. If you do not, we will contact you for this information and not approve a product until it is provided.
Very Important: You may NOT engage in “under the table” transactions where you have a Hangzhou Plus user pay you through other mediums for products listed on the site. Not only does is this method unsafe for both you and the buyer, your account will be deleted if found or reported to be engaging in this kind of activity. Fees are low and reasonable because we do a lot to increase exposure for your product(s), so please follow the rules.
What Can I sell?
We take each submission on a case-by-case basis as our list of approved categories grows, but simple items such as imported goods, arts and crafts, delivery services, etc., are generally acceptable. Please keep in mind we do have the right to deny any product submissions.
What Can’t I sell?
As our list of approved categories grows, our list of forbidden products will as well. Obviously, forbidden goods include those which are illegal in China.
We do not have a way to automatically calculate shipping, so please either create a separate product for shipping prices, or factor local shipping into your total price (inner city shipping should be the same price). You must ship products within a reasonable time-frame (1-3 days). Once you ship a product, you must send the tracking code to the customer immediately.
Once a customer has purchased your product, you will receive an e-mail notification with the customer’s information. If you need to follow-up with the customer, you can use the included contact information to send them a message. If you would like to view a complete list of orders, you can go to the Sales section in your dashboard. From there you can also apply to withdraw funds.
- At this time, if you need to refund or cancel an order, you must contact us to do so. We plan to add this functionality in the near future.
You’ve made a few sales and now you would like to withdraw your hard-earned income from your account. Here’s how:
Since all orders are made through our site, we will receive funds directly from the customer first. This works to protect customers and ensure that orders are completed before sellers may receive money, similar to how Taobao/Alipay and eBay/PayPal work. You may request to withdraw funds on all completed orders with the "Withdraw Funds" form in your dashboard. After this request has been made, we will review it and then transfer funds within according to the below timetables.
Fund Withdrawal Timetables:
Events: 3 days after completion of an event (funds will be transferred on day 4)
Coupons or deals sold by registered listings providers: 3 days after sale has been completed
We have a very simple fee structure, here it is:
We charge a 2% service fee on all products or tickets sold on Hangzhou Plus (guides excluded). This includes 1% which goes directly to the payment provider (Alipay/WeChat), and 1% to support the website’s development.
Tips for Sellers
These quick tips will help you sell more products, make customers satisfied, and maximize your return:
- Share your products on WeChat, Facebook, and other social media – Use the sharing buttons on your product page to let your networks know what you have to offer.
- Perform good customer service – ship orders within a reasonable timeframe, keep customers up to date on the status of their orders, and answer their questions quickly, effectively, and with a positive attitude. One poor experience may be all it takes for word to spread throughout the city. On the bright side – many positive experiences will make you a trusted and reliable seller: the perfect formula for success.
- Save time by adding a complete product description – Do you have many customers asking the same questions, or very basic questions? Answer the questions right in your product description to save time and focus on growing your customer base rather than replying to messages all day!
Events & Tickets
Hangzhou Plus is the perfect place to let the international community know about your organization or company’s next local event. Most Hangzhou Plus users are living, working, or traveling within Hangzhou, which makes it a highly concentrated environment that will get participants registered for your events quickly. Plus, our interface is easy-to-use and offers the ability to sell tickets with 33% less fees than popular ticketing platforms such as Yoopay. Let’s get started by creating an event:
Creating an event is easy. To create an event, just go to the New Event page and fill out the form. Make sure you fill out all information completely and accurately, and remember to add an event image or poster. Then simply submit the form for approval.
Rules for Events
- Do not post any events that are against the laws of the PRC. They will not be approved.
- Although most events will be shown on this website, we may decide that a particular event does not fit our content and thus remove it. Please respect our right and decision.
"I've Submitted an Event: Now What?"
After you have submitted your event, our team will review it and possibly make spelling / grammar adjustments, or remove advertisement-like material. If your event is approved, we will e-mail you and then you can complete your event information such as the organizer, venue, and add tickets. It normally takes around 3-6 hours for our team to review your event during regular business hours. You can manage your events right from your dashboard.
*Important: You will only be able to add an event venue, organizer, and tickets AFTER your event has been approved and published by our team. Please remember to complete this information in order to increase chances of a user registering!
Collect registration fees and organize attendee information easily by selling tickets for your event right through HangzhouPlus.com. Once your event has been approved, you can add tickets right on the bottom of your event page. We do charge a small 2% fee on tickets sold to cover payment system / website costs, which is cheaper than other events sites! Read our information on fees in the selling a product section above for more details.
*Make sure you describe what each ticket is good for during your event (for example: half day ticket vs. full day ticket: which parts of the event are included in each).
**Of course, you can also create free tickets as well if your event is free or you would like to handle payment yourself!
User Cancellation & Refunds
If a user needs to cancel their ticket and requests a refund, it is up to the event organizer whether or not to refund money UNLESS the user has accidently purchased multiple tickets (which should be reported immediately). It is assumed that there are no refunds for user cancellations unless otherwise noted.
If your event is cancelled for any reason, you MUST refund all tickets to those who have paid, no exceptions. Currently, there is no way for you to refund tickets yourself, so you must contact us to request a refund be made.
Tickets work much like products sold in the Marketplace and are managed in the same way. Whenever a person buys a ticket, you will receive an e-mail containing all of their order and contact information, including which type of ticket they bought. You can view a list of your orders on your “Sales” page in your dashboard.
*Important: Please keep all emails about ticket purchases in a handy location because your dashboard will NOT contain the contact information of attendees. This functionality will be added in the future and we apologize for the inconvenience. Until then, we recommend putting attendee information in an Excel chart or other place to keep everything organized! If you happen to lose attendee information, contact us and we will gladly provide it to you.
After selling tickets, you will want to withdraw fees collected in order to pay for event costs. Withdrawing funds for event tickets follows the same process as for other products. You can read the withdrawal policy here.

Becoming a Guide
Becoming a guide is easy and all it takes are a few simple steps:
- Fill Out and Submit Application Form:
Make sure you fill out the form correctly and upload your resume in order to ensure the application process is as quick as possible.
- Verify Your Identity
After you have submitted your application, we will contact you to have you send a photo of your passport and visa, as well as arrange a video call. During the call, we will make sure that you are the person on your passport, you are able to speak Chinese, and you are available to be a guide. All information is confidential and we will never share it with anyone, but it is necessary in order to protect travelers to Hangzhou.
At the completion of your phone interview, we will either approve or deny your application. If you are approved, you will automatically become a verified guide and can begin finding travelers. Although you are now a guide, you must still follow our guidelines in order to remain a guide and ensure travelers have a positive experience.
Travelers pay you for your time showing them around the city. Currently, a day of being a guide (~8 hours) will net you 1170 RMB (after the small service fee we charge travelers). In the future, we will let guides with high ratings set their own prices.
Although guides are not employees, they must follow a few simple rules in order to remain on Hangzhou Plus:
- Travelers browsing HangzhouPlus.com may contact a guide to arrange an appointment. All guides are responsible for creating a sightseeing itinerary for travelers based on their needs and duration of appointment. Itineraries must be sent to travelers through Hangzhou Plus well ahead of their visit so that both parties may plan accordingly.
*Important - Please DO NOT plan travelers’ hotels, transportation to and from the city, or anything outside of the scope of being a guide as it is not part of your duties. We will add this option soon as an add-on payment option in the near future. Taking on these responsibilities can lead to more trouble if tickets are cancelled, the hotel is bad, etc.
- All pre-arrival communications must be done through messaging on HangzhouPlus.com. This ensures both sides' safety as we will have a record of itineraries and information exchanged in case of any dispute which may occur. Final communications may include phone and email contact information, but only after a traveler has confirmed their appointment and successfully paid. Violations of this policy will result in an immediate ban.
- Guides may not accept payment from travelers outside of Hangzhou Plus. If a traveler wants you to add a day, please kindly have them purchase another day through the website. This protects both you and the travelers’ safety as we will have records of the transaction in case a dispute arises.
- Guides are responsible for the experience of travelers you guide around Hangzhou. Poor feedback left by travelers will be subject to review and possible termination of guide status.
- A typical “day” is around 8 hours. You have no obligation to guide for any longer on any one day.
- Guides may NOT take groups larger than 5.
- Guides may not fail to show up for appointments. Travelers schedule appointments well in advance, and only in extreme emergency situations shall a guide be allowed to cancel an appointment. If an emergency occurs, you are responsible for letting travelers know well ahead of time. Under no circumstances should a guide find someone else to take over their duties. Hangzhou Plus will take care of this task.
- In the event of an emergency during your appointment with travelers, you must call emergency services as soon as possible.
- Upon submission of a guide application, you acknowledge that you agree to all terms outlined here. HangzhouPlus.com retains the right to ban any guide who fails to follow our guidelines.

Hangzhou is a safe place, but sometimes accidents do happen. Always remember to travel in public places and never get into a situation that puts you, your guests’, or others’ lives in danger. If something serious happens, do NOT take matters into your own hands. Call emergency services immediately. They can speak English if necessary.
